Tom Spengler

Jon Udell speaks with Granicus co-founder Tom Spengler, who explains how his company's streaming media system enables governments to manage the capture and synchronized presentation of video and text, making the proceedings usefully transparent.

Nowadays a lot of civic discourse is transparent, but often not very usefully so. It's great to be able to watch city council meetings on the web, but those meetings are long and it's hard to jump to the agenda items you care about.

Tom Spengler co-founded Granicus, Inc. as Chairman and CEO in 1999. He currently heads up Granicus' senior management team and will lead the company in its next stage of growth. Prior to co-founding Granicus, Spengler was a member of Anderson Consulting’s (now Accenture) premier Internet development group, performing Internet strategy and development work for Q-pass, E-trade, Anderson's R&D division, the United States Post Office and others. Prior to Anderson, he worked at Hewlett Packard to help develop leading Intranet communications tools used throughout the organization. Spengler currently is a University Advisor for Cal Poly, a frequent public speaker, and also a certified teacher for the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC), teaching classes on minutes annotation and digital audio/video recording for local government agencies.
