Federal CTO Aneesh Chopra was appointed by President Barack Obama to assist him on how to make the government more effective, efficient and transparent. In this audio interview from the Gov 2.0 Summit, Tim O'Reilly speaks with Chopra about this new model of cooperation between the US government and its citizens.

As the first Federal CTO, Chopra has influence on standards, policy, research and development and procurement. One of his most important jobs is to pull all of those areas together into a "hard-wired" agency accountability for open government, an accountability which will not go away with the next administration.

One of the main concerns of US citizens is that their voices will not be heard in Washington. Chopra discusses this issue and tells how the Open Government Directive will address these concerns. Under this directive, each agency in the government will have to show some accountability in adhering to the spirit of open government, and engage the public in the consultation phase of their open government plan.

In this informative audio interview, Chopra spells out the three key principals of the Open Government Directive and combined with O'Reilly's probing questions, helps us better understand this new era of government transparency and cooperation.

Aneesh Chopra serves as the Federal Chief Technology Officer.  In this role, Chopra promotes technological innovation to help the country meet its goals, from job creation to reducing healthcare costs to protecting the homeland.  Prior to his confirmation, Chopra served as Virginia's Secretary of Technology. He also lead the Commonwealth's strategy on how to effectively leverage technology in government reform, to promote Virginia's innovation agenda, and to foster technology-related economic development. Previously, he worked as Managing Director with the Advisory Board Company, leading the firm's Financial Leadership Council and the Working Council for Health Plan Executives.
